After flipping a switch on the dashboard a chain wheel is lowered so it contacts the inside of the tire. The contact between the tire and the rubber-covered chain wheel causes the chain wheel to rotate, creating enough centrifugal force to extend the chains out in front of and under the tire.
How fast can you drive with automatic tire chains?
Automatic tire chains are designed for typical winter driving speeds. Most systems are safe up to 35 mph while engaged, and normal highway speeds when disengaged. They are not intended for high-speed use on dry pavement.
Are they compatible with my truck?
Most medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks (Class 6–8) can be fitted. Compatibility depends on axle type, suspension, tire size, and available mounting space.
Send us your VIN or chassis specs and we’ll confirm fit.
Do drivers need special training to use them?
Training is minimal. The driver simply activates a switch in the cab. We provide on-site or remote training for shop staff and operators to ensure correct usage and maintenance.
Can they be installed on both single and dual axle setups?
Yes. Systems can be configured for single or tandem drive axles, depending on traction needs and route conditions.
How does maintenance work?
Maintenance is straightforward. Regular visual inspections and occasional chain replacement keep the system performing reliably. Mountain West Utility provides parts and local service support.
